Preventative Health Care for Pets

Preventative health care plays an essential role in helping pets live longer, healthier lives. Regular veterinary visits allow early detection of health concerns and help protect pets from preventable diseases and parasites. Our team provides tailored preventative health care plans based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are a core part of preventative health care. They protect pets against serious and potentially life-threatening infectious diseases. We follow current vaccination guidelines and tailor protocols to suit your pet’s needs while avoiding unnecessary treatments.

Dog Vaccination Schedule

Diseases vaccinated against dogs in Australia are canine parvo, canine parainfluenza, distemper , canine adenovirus, bordetella bronchiseptica, leptospira and canine coronavirus.

The type of vaccination is selected based on your dog’s history, lifestyle and age.

First vaccination: 6 – 8 weeks of age
Second vaccination: 10 – 12 weeks of age
Third and final booster vaccinations: 14 – 16 weeks of age
Once every 12 months for the rest of the pet’s life

Please note that at the time of writing we do not offer triennial vaccinations at our practice.

Parasite Prevention

Effective parasite control protects both pets and their families. We provide advice and preventative treatments for:

  • Fleas and ticks
  • Intestinal worms
  • Tapeworm
  • Heartworm

Prevention schedules are recommended based on your pet’s lifestyle, environment, and local parasite risks.

Routine Health Monitoring

Regular health checks allow us to monitor weight, dental health, mobility, and overall wellbeing. Early detection of changes can help prevent more serious conditions and support ongoing health management.

Desexing & Disease Prevention

Desexing is an important preventative health measure. In addition to preventing unwanted litters, desexing reduces the risk of certain cancers, including mammary tumours, and can help prevent reproductive and hormone-related conditions.

Individualised Care

Preventative health care is not one size fits all. We work with you to develop the right protocols for your pet’s life stage, environment, and health status, helping to support long-term wellbeing.
