Pet Dentistry & Dental Health
Dental health is an important part of your pet’s overall wellbeing and longevity.
Dental disease is very common in dogs and cats. Periodontal disease will result in bad breath, visible tartar accumulation (plaque and calculi), gums that are red, swollen, inflamed, infected and or bleeding.
Left untreated, periodontal disease will result in oral pain, inability to chew food properly leading to reluctance to eat, fussy eating, excessive drooling. Bacteria associated with dental disease may enter the blood stream and end up infecting organs like the liver, kidney, heart valves, the stomach leading to significant disease in those organs.
Dogs and cats with advanced periodontal disease often show a general malaise-an overall unwellness where they’re clearly not thriving, not as energetic as they used to be, even if the exact cause of their discomfort isn’t immediately obvious.
Many pet parents are often amazed after we have treated or resolved the hidden periodontal disease. Their pet, once run-down, dull and depressed, suddenly returns to their old playful and energetic self. They return to eating eagerly, playing enthusiastically and enjoying life again. It is most often the case that pet parents fully realise what a huge toll bad teeth are on their pet only after the treatment has been done because of how well their pets feel and look after the treatment.
Regular dental checks allow early identification of periodontal disease. Addressing dental problems early can help prevent or avoid more advanced disease and reduce the need for extensive treatment.
At Bundaberg South Vet Clinic, we provide a wide range of dental services. Scale and polish, oral radiographs, teeth extractions and oral surgery like lump removal or tumour removal.
Oral radiographs allow us to assess the root of each tooth and the structures that support the tooth. All dental procedures are performed under general anaesthesia to allow a thorough and safe assessment and treatment.
To our clients, we offer a FREE dental/oral examination every 6 months. This is a quick assessment of the mouth only, to determine whether any dental work e.g a scale and polish is required or not.
At these FREE checks, our team evaluates the oral health of your pet and discusses treatment options if needed as well as home oral care that you can do to maintain your pet’s mouth healthy. If in doubt about the health of your cat or dog’s mouth or teeth, take advantage of this free oral exam offer and book your Pet with one of our team members.
